In my relational database courses, we did a fair amount of SQL coding. I learned about relational theory, but there was less of a focus on non-relational databases. I wrote a white-paper on the benefits and drawbacks of each broad category of database. It was excellent practice with technical writing and I enjoyed learning more about non-relational databases.
